Charles Perkins Life Story

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:" 2 Timothy 4:7-9

Charles Perkins was born in Waskom, Texas, to Charlie and Willie Nellie Perkins. He was one of ten children, five boys and five girls. At a young age, Charles left Waskom after completing the eighth grade, determined to build a better future. Knowing he needed to earn a living, he moved to Houston, where he worked as a carpenter and in various warehouses.

Charles later answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably for two years. During this time, he married Ruby Colvin Perkins and had his son James Anthony Perkins. After his honorable discharge, Charles continued pursuing new opportunities and later met and married Ossie Lee. From this union, two daughters were born: Ornaray Perkins McDaniel and Arvis Perkins Askew.

Life eventually led Charles to Los Angeles, California, where he met and married Pauline Miller Perkins on September 19, 1957. Together, they moved to Pomona, California and built a successful business, Perkins and Son, grounded in hard work and faith. Charles and Pauline were blessed with twelve children, and they raised their family with God first, love, and dedication. They were married for 67 years.

Charles was a devoted father to six sons-James Anthony Perkins, Fred Perkins, Carlton Perkins, Ronald Perkins, Reginald Perkins, and Norman Perkins-and six daughters - Ornaray R. Perkins McDaniel, Arvis Perkins Askew, Charleszetta Perkins, Marie Perkins, Monica Floyd, and Lynis Bonds.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents; three brothers Elige Perkins, Floyd Perkins, and Felton Perkins; two sisters Rosa Lee Brown, Nellie Thomas; his loving wife Pauline Perkins, his son, James Anthony Perkins; two daughters, Diane Jacob Green and Barbara McQueen; and his son-in-law, John Taylor.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, one brother Zack (Linda) Perkins, Sr., three sisters Beulah Jernigan, Sue Carter, and Jean Williams, his children Ornaray Perkins McDaniel, Arvis Perkins Askew, Fred Perkins, Carlton Perkins, Ronald Perkins, Charleszetta Taylor, and Reginald Perkins, along with 21 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

Charles Perkins will be remembered for his strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, deep faith and trust in Lord, and unwavering love for his family.
